Transforming Pediatric Neurosurgery in Myanmar

Prof. Philippe Schucht and Myanmar surgeons

One of the biggest achievements of this trip to Myanmar was receiving official approval to launch a dedicated pediatric neurosurgery unit. It’s a goal we’ve been working toward for years.

This marks a major transformation: children with congenital conditions, trauma, and complex neurosurgical needs will now have access to their own specialists, their own ward, and care tailored entirely to them. It’s a significant leap forward for pediatric neurosurgery in the country.

We also spent valuable time in the operating theater, exchanging techniques, reviewing cases, and connecting with the local residents.
